Mr. Ahrens has been a practicing attorney for the past 30 years, and specializes in helping consumers effectively deal with their financial difficulties. .  He has been licensed to practice law in the States of California, New York and New Jersey. Additionally, Mr. Ahrens is admitted to practice law in certain United States Federal Courts.

Mr. Ahrens has handled thousands of bankruptcy matters.  Mr. Ahrens was formerly employed as an attorney by the international professional services and consulting firm of Ernst & Young, L.L.P., in their National Tax Department.  While at Ernst & Young, Mr. Ahrens helped clients address debt restructuring issues, and other related topics.  Mr. Ahrens is also the author of a substantial law review article involving debt restructuring issues, which was published by The Virginia Tax Review (The Virginia Tax Review is itself published by The University of Virginia School of Law at Charlottesville).  This article has been cited extensively, including by a committee of the United States Congress.  An earlier version of this article was published by Tax Notes Today.

Mr. Ahrens has a Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) degree in Accounting from Adelphi University in Garden City, New York, and a Juris Doctorate (J.D.) law degree from Hofstra University School of Law in Hempstead, New York.  Mr. Ahrens also has a Master of Law degree (LL.M.) in Taxation from Georgetown University Law Center, located in Washington, D.C.  Mr. Ahrens is also a member of the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys.
